Your need to receive, and perhaps give, coping support while you go through cancer treatment is important to SEGO. Patients have told us that only someone who has had cancer can understand the day-to-day challenges that come with being a cancer patient. As a volunteer program, patients join to find support from other patients before initiating treatment, during treatment and often after completion of treatment for gynecologic cancer.
The SEGO - We care Foundation established SEGO Buddies to create SEGO Buddy matches consisting of patients matched with each other based on information each supplied to us; including diagnosis, age, area of town, interests, concerns, etc...
SEGO Buddies provide support to each other through phone calls, email, or personal visits. The relationship can be whatever both Buddies need it to be. We encourage SEGO Buddies to find creative ways to be mutually supportive.
Caregivers and family members are also encouraged to join 'journeys 2 share' - offering similar support to other care givers on the journey with their loved one.
In addition to the one-on-one support, we offer group support, currently at three locations. These groups often highlight a featured guest speaker. Topics include nutrition, spirituality, art therapy, clinical trial research and "What is an ethical will?" naming just a few.
Our SEGO Buddies Program Coordinator and our Oncology Social Work Coordinator are available to provide guidance and assistance.
Use the Buddy Profile Sheet to become a SEGO Buddy. The information you provide will be used to match you with someone with similar interests and needs.
